Essex Savings Bank Recycles Income to Non-profits Essex Savings Bank has announced that non-profit community organizations will receive $106,000 from the Directors’ portion of the Bank’s Community Investment Program. The Bank, which has an office in Old Saybrook, annually commits 10% of its after tax net income to qualifying organizations. Local Residents Win Major Agricultural Journalism Awards On March 18, Old Saybrook resident Anthony Cronin received an agriculture journalism award for Best Feature Story in a Daily Publication from Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell and Agriculture Commissioner F. Philip Prelli during Agriculture Day at the State Capitol. The Bowerbird currently has only one, very lonely scarecrow on its lawn so in order to atract more participants to its third annual Build a Scarecrow contest, the entry deadline has been extended. All local non-profit youth groups and organizations can enter and each participating organization receives a $50 gift certificate, plus one scarecrow will be selected as the Grand Prize winner and win $100 in cash for its sponsoring organization. Celebrating the OS Visitor's Center Completion "The sun’s out,” said a beaming Old Saybrook First Selectman Michael Pace Monday morning at the conclusion of the ceremony to dedicate the town’s Visitor’s Center on Main Street.
